A concise timeline of growth and excellence
The Benjamin Uwajumogu (State) College of Education, Ihitte-Uboma, originally established as
Imo State College of Education (Technical), was founded on 29th October 2010 through Law No. 11
of 2010 enacted by the Imo State House of Assembly and signed by then Governor His Excellency
Chief Ikedi Ohakim.
In 2014, the law was amended under the administration of His Excellency, Governor Owelle Rochas
Okorocha and the speakership of Rt. Hon. Chief Ben Uwajumogu, leading to the removal of the
word “Technical” from the institution’s name. The amendment, Law No. 3 of 2014, was officially
assented to on 13th February 2014.
On 3rd March 2015, the pioneer management team was appointed, with Dr. Chris Osuegbu as Provost,
Mr. Emma Nwosu as Registrar, and Mr. Ejike Okehi as Bursar. The team secured regulatory approval
from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and began operations at
Madonna Science Secondary School, Ihitte-Uboma.
A resource inspection was carried out between 15th–19th May 2017, which culminated in granting the College a
Provisional Approval for NCE programmes by the management of the National Commission for Colleges of Education
(NCCE) at its 267th meeting on 5th June 2017.
The College initially operated four schools:
School of General Education
School of Arts and Social Sciences
School of Languages
School of Sciences
It began with Pre-NCE programmes, admitting the first 26 students who transitioned into full NCE programmes.
Full admission into NCE regular programmes commenced in the 2017/2018 academic session.
From its humble beginnings, the Benjamin Uwajumogu (State) College of Education, Ihitte Uboma has grown
significantly, now operating six schools and offering 46 fully accredited courses, having successfully graduated
three sets of students.
